  1. I love how the two boys keep their personalities intact while they are transformed, even down to discussing how to walk so they look more like Crabbe & Goyle. So many opportunities for things to go awry, yet they pull it off, as usual...and don't even really find out what they're after.

  2. I basically agree with Romana, but not on the last phrase. Here's my two cents' worth:
They did find out several very important things by getting inside the Slytherin Common Room, one of which they were after: 1- Malfoy isn't Slytherin's heir. 2- The Chamber of Secrets does, indeed exist. 3- It was opened 50 years ago. 4- Last time it was opened, a Mudblood died. 5- The person who opened the chamber was expelled.
One other thing they found out during that hour will be important to know in the future, too, and not wanting to put in a spoiler, I'm not saying what that is.

  3. I think it's very telling that Draco doesn't notice the differences between them and his usual cronies. It really shows you just how much attention he really has for those who are beneath him in his own mind. Though I think this might be one point where I agree with him...as awful as he is...at least he has a brain.

  4. I've been paying more attention to Malfoy this reading than ever before. I think it's noteworthy that everything always comes back to his father. He needs to impress Lucius at all costs - a lost boy who craves attention from a malicious but uncaring father.

On the other hand...why would Lucius be so stupid as to tell his twelve year old son as much as he has?

  5. Perhaps Lucius didn't tell Draco, so much as Draco eavesdropped and heard his father say it to someone else. If I recall correctly, he said "my father said", rather than "my father told me", and to someone with such a need to prove himself worthy, information gained by any means can be a useful tool in making yourself worthy of regard. I see Draco very easily as someone who would sneak around listening at keyholes for nefarious purposes...
