I think the climax in this book is one of the best in the series. It is, in turns, exciting, funny, scary, thrilling, and puzzling. I remember being confounded when the sword dropped out of the hat, and even after I finished the book, I still didn't really get what had happened. But what an important that was! Huge ramifications for the wizarding world!
Tom Riddle is one terrifying dude, even as a teenager. Interesting take on the sociopath.
