  1. Book 3 does feel different right off the bat. It's darker and sadder, but Harry is also growing up and has a stronger sense of self. He's also a lot snarkier with the Dursleys.

    I like the way JKR pushes the envelope with the Dursleys, making them so heinous to Harry that we don't mind if he, say, blows them up. Marge's taunting of Harry was like Harry being locked in a broom closet in the first one. He becomes totally justified in asserting himself.

    It's good that this book didn't go into great detail recapping the previous books (that's one of the most tedious aspects of CoS - all the summarizing of PS).

    Sirius is a pretty creepy character upon introduction to him..
