  1. First impression of Fudge is that he is an incompetent who is more concerned with appearances than facts.

    Hagrid's whole thing with monsters is that they aren't as bad/dangerous as they look, and is possibly spillover from having been judged on his appearance all his life. He's desperate to prove the monsters are good, because it will prove he is also good. as a half-giant, he would not normally have been admitted to Hogwarts in the first place, and most in the wizarding community would classify him as a monster/beast, rather than a person.

  2. I saw the Aragog they used in the movie at the HP exhibit last week. It was so revoltingly ugly and hairy.

    Fudge strikes me as a bumbling uncle at this stage in the game. I love his name - so many connotations (JKR is a master at names and in that respect is a bit like Dickens, or even like restoration comedy writers).
