BOOK: The Goblet of Fire CHAPTER: 6 SYNOPSIS: The Weasleys, Harry, and Hermione meet up with the Diggorys and take a Portkey to the Quidditch World Cup. FOR TOMORROW: 7
From the description given in the book I don't think it's a really comfortable ride no matter how you slice it. I think that's why most people prefer apparation, but it's just more convenient than flying when you've got the younguns.
Unplot related spoiler-
I wonder why we don't see more side along apparation like we get in book six. Surely the Diggory's could have managed that rather than going for the portkey since there were just the two of them.
As far as side-along apparition, is the only time we see it with Harry and Dumbledore? I can't remember.
It could be that it's too dangerous for the average wizard to attempt, or maybe too risky. I would guess that with side-along, one wizard is responsible for "putting together" both people when they get where they're going. I don't think I'd want the responsibility. :-)
The portkey is cool, isn't it? Don't you wish you had a few of those in your life?
ReplyDeleteThere are hints of adolescent awkwardness starting to show up here in the relationships.
The portkey is a cool concept, but it looks like such a dizzy ride in the movie that I don't think I could actually use one.

I don't know what the side along apparations are (halfway done with book 5 now), but Harry and friends couldn't apparate due to being underage.
